The Buzz About Milan Fashion Week in February

The Buzz About Milan Fashion Week in February

Despite all that is happening globally, it will soon be time for a much-awaited twice-yearly event in Milan, one of the world’s most prestigious fashion destinations. Fashion Week in this fashion mecca is slated for February 22-28, an event you want to attend.

Milan isn’t only Italy's fashion capital; it is also home to some of the world's leading fashion houses, such as Prada, Miu Miu, and Fendi.

The fashion buzz in Milan is about the much-awaited unveiling of Matthieu Blazy’s new collection for Bottega Veneta on February 26 – his first since he replaced Daniel Lee as creative director. Fashion magazine editors are waiting to see whether Blazy will take the crown from Prada during fashion week, and the excitement is mounting. Getting all your plans underway now to attend this thrilling event is a wise move. Staying in the unbelievably modern, sleek, posh Townhouse Michel in Milan’s fashion district puts you in the center of fashion week action. Not only does this impressive, contemporary property have a private elevator and a terrific city view, but it also features a rooftop terrace with a lovely garden, a pool and a Jacuzzi.

Gucci is Back

Aside from Blazy’s new collection, not much has been released about the week in Milan. But we know that Gucci will return to the event after being absent for two years. Instead of participating in Fashion Week, Gucci showcased its collection through films, virtual shows and destination events. We also know the fashion house will feature a mixed-gender or genderless collection in Milan.

A Peek into What Fashion Editors Are Seeing

It looks like this year’s spring and summer fashion is all about deconstruction and ultra-short minis. Sculpted shoes that have the earmarks of art pieces are also raging, especially from Prada and Fendi.

The Art of Deconstruction

Sustainability is part of the main impetus behind deconstruction in fashion. Upcycling isn’t just a trend, designers say it’s here to stay and so looking for new ways of using things has become quite chic. Deconstruction is a way of giving clothes a distressed look. Seams are exposed, edges are raw and pieces look as though the designer hasn’t finished them. Prada’s creative directors have used linings of couture jackets and gowns to create clothes on their own to put a sexy spin on things.

Dare to Go Shorter

Skirts inspired by 60s fashion icon Twiggy are getting shorter and shorter. Shorts are often paired with these miniest of low-rise minis to prevent possible embarrassing moments. Expect to see many of these in fashion hubs this spring and summer. Fendi, Prada, Versace, Dior, Simone Rocha, and Moschino are just a few brands that are reinterpreting the garment.

Shoes with a Point

Even though square-toed shoes are staying, pointy shoes just keep getting pointier. There is nothing more sultry than a pair of leg-lengthening, pointed pumps. Many designers are going back to this sexy staple. You’ll be seeing this style of shoe dominate the runway in Milan. The point, too, is having a place to stay in Milan that is just as stylish and exclusive as the couture at fashion week.

Having been cloistered so many times due to COVID-19, it makes sense that some designers are logically being a bit edgy regarding their creations. Vivienne Westwood has always been known for its punky, avant-garde style, which some other designers have been influenced by. No doubt, we will see these influences on the runway as well.
