If you’re an avid runner and you’ve chosen the Hamptons as your vacation destination, you will want to pack your finest running/athletic shoes since that part of the world provides some of the most incredible scenery in which to perfect your sport.
The Hamptons has a couple of iconic routes in each town from east to west with several along seaside and beachfront roads. Here are some new sneaker offerings from some haute couture designers. Being an avid runner, doesn’t mean you need to give up your terrific fashion sense.
Versace
In its spring/summer collection, Versace has premiered its latest addition to its coveted sneaker family – the Trigreca. Referencing Versace DNA, the Trigreca features the Barocco print and three prominent Greca executions: the midsole lateral, medial, and the bottom of the outsole. This combination creates the "Greca Cushioning System." In a subtle nod to Milan, the upper has a discrete print of the city's coordinates. Retail for US$1,325.
Gucci
The Gucci run sneaker is made both for men and women. Reminiscent of running shoes, this pair of sneakers is strongly inspired by the sporting world. The style is presented in a technical knit fabric in black and takes on a strong logo feel thanks to a rubber interlocking “G” detail. They retail for US$890.
Prada
Prada’s Cloudburst air sneakers are highly technical. The look is clean and modern, and totally minimalistic. Pull-on styling makes them easy to slip on and off quickly. They retail for US$1,050.
Fendi
Fendi Flow sneakers have adjustable elastic laces and side zip fastening. They’re customized with the FF pattern on the tongue and rubber tab with an embossed logo on the back of the heel. Made of nylon, suede and Lycra in black. Rubber details, 35 millimeter rubber running sole with pink diagonal F detailing. They retail for US$1,050.
Nike
Nike's ISPA line continues its roll-out of innovative silhouettes with this ISPA Zoom Road Warrior QS. Scavenging design influences from a range of sports – basketball, training and running – the highly-technical pair boasts two Zoom Air Pods in the forefoot and a double layer of zoom cushioning below the arch for heightened levels of cushioning. The open midsole nods to early Nike Shox prototypes and the runner features a split-style “tabi” toe for a barefoot feel. Hi-vis reflective detailing features throughout, and the pair's woven upper is covered by a ski-boot like strap fit system for security. They retail for US$1,234.
Now that you have the low-down on what’s new in shoes, you might want to have a look at these couple routes in the Hamptons that are perfect for running.
Westhampton – Dune Road. For a long, straight, flat run with water views, this is the best bet in the Hamptons. Dune Road runs for 14 miles, from Cupsogue Beach County Park to Shinnecock County Park West at the eastern end. Good water views, marshes and dunes.
- Southampton – Meadow Lane. A wonderful run, with estates and water views, incorporates Pond Lane and Meadow Lane. It is six miles one way from the center of Southampton to the end of Meadow Lane at Shinnecock East County Park.
- East Hampton – Further Land and Amagansett. A great run along beachfront roads lined with iconic estates. The highlight is Further Lane. For a longer run, head further east along Bluff Road to the Amagansett National Wildlife Refuge. Good, flat, out and back options here, for the distance of your choice.
- Highlights of Montauk. A popular destination at the tip of Long Island. A great loop is to enjoy the Bluff lookout, Montauk Point Lighthouse, and Montauk Point State Park, where there are miles of trails. One of the best spots in the Hamptons to get in some hills.
- Sag Harbor – North Haven Loop. Sag Harbor is a lovely waterside village listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Self-design your own tour using Main Street and the quaint, leafy side streets. You can incorporate two bridges and great water views.
