Art Basel Switzerland

Art Basel is frequently referred to as the Olympics of the art world. This global art construct gives thousands of artists from nearly every corner of the world the chance to showcase their works in more than 280 galleries in 33 countries while at the same time allowing collectors and gallerists to add to their collections. The Swiss venue, Messe Basel, is the largest exhibition center in the country and one of the most important in Europe. The year's exhibition was scheduled from June 13-16. 

NEW AND RETURNING PARTICIPANTS

The 2024 edition of the exhibition featured over 4,000 artists. The list of exhibitors includes Sabrina Amrani, Galleria Continua, Dirimart, Selma Feriani Gallery, Perrotin, Pi Artworks, and Zilberman Gallery, among others. Per tradition, Art Basel will be debuting new galleries that have yet to participate in the exhibitions. These include but are not limited to: Mayoral (Paris, Barcelona), Yares Art (New York, Santa Fe), Galerie Le Minotaure (Paris), Maruani Mercier (Brussels, Knokke, Zaventem), Galerie Muller (Basel), Felix Gaudlitz (Vienna) and Galerie Anne-Sarah Bénichou (Paris). 

Seven galleries previously included in Feature or Statements are moving into the primary sector. These are Commonwealth and Council (Mexico City, Los Angeles), Crèvecœur (Paris), Gaga (Guadalajara, Mexico City, Los Angeles), Garth Greenan Gallery (New York), Tina Kim Gallery (Seoul, New York), Mazzoleni (Turin, London), and Galerie Bene Taschen (Cologne). 

Villa The Mansion

As you explore the renowned Art Basel, Villa The Mansion will be a perfect residence. The luxurious home is a serene oasis Overlooking Lake Zurich and the Alpine mountains. Art Basel has several segments: Unlimited, Parcours, Kabinett, Messeplatz, Film, Feature, Statements, and Editions. 

Features will focus on art-historical projects with  11 new exhibitors and 16 curated presentations. Some of the highlights include:

  • Condensed retrospective of artist Jean Tinguely presented by Galerie Mueller’s (Basel)
  • Exceptional oil paintings by Irène Zurkinden presented by Meredith Rosen Gallery (New York)
  • Viyé Diba will present Senegalese art with OH Gallery (Dakar)
  • Works by the renowned Peter Halley presented by  Maruani Mercier (Brussels, Knokke, Zaventem);
  • Artistic partnership between Maryn Varbanov and Song Huai-Kuei presented by Bank (Shanghai)

Statements are devoted to showcasing emerging artists. In 2024, 18 solo presentations will be featured, including six first-time entries. Some of the remarkable art pieces are:

  • Installation Safe to Visit by Sandra Poulson, presented by Jahmek Contemporary Art (Luanda)
  • 15 sculptural depicting personal prayers  works by Ahmed Umar presented by OSL Contemporary (Oslo) 
  • Sonic installation An OK Space to Rest by Julian Abraham Togar, presented by ROH Projects (Jakarta)
  • Video installation by Tiffany Sia presented by  Felix Gaudlitz (Vienna);
  • Multi-part installation by La Chola Poblete presented by Barro (Buenos Aires).

For the Edition section, Art Basel will showcase prints and editioned works from eight leading galleries: Borch Editions (Copenhagen), Cristea Roberts Gallery (London), Gemini G.E.L. (Los Angeles), Knust Kunz gallery editions (Munich), Carolina Nitsch (New York), René Schmitt (Westoverledingen), Susan Sheehan Gallery (New York), and STPI (Singapore). 

Villa Prima
