Porsche announces release of The 911 Porsche Design 50th Anniversary Edition
Porsche is celebrating its 50th anniversary in a big way and in monumental style.
The German automobile manufacturer recently unveiled two surprises.
Firstly, in a tribute to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, for the past two years Porsche Classic has been working on a unique project to celebrate 50 years of Porsche design. To mark the anniversary, Porsche Classic has restored a 911 S 2.4 Targa from 1972 – the year that design was founded. The one-of-a-kind vehicle features the same colors as the legendary Chronograph I watch that Ferdinand designed in 1972: the color black dominates both the exterior and the interior of the restored vehicle.
“Our vision was to build a historic counterpart for the new 911 Porsche Design 50th Anniversary Edition special model," said Director of Porsche Classic Ulrike Lutz. "The year of manufacture was the only specific requirement for the donor vehicle on this occasion.
“The designers and members of the factory restoration team were tasked with carefully transferring the specification from the new car to the classic."
Limited Edition
Secondly, Porsche is also celebrating with an exclusive 911 in honor of the milestone. This version, limited to 750 vehicles, has many features and details paying homage to the iconic designs of Porsche himself. These include:
- Plain black exterior or jet black metallic
- Classic checked pattern of the sport-tex seat center panels
- Red second hand of the sub second clock from the standard Sport Chrono Package
Incredible Power
The limited-edition model has the same wheels as the 911 Turbo S: 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear. Rims are painted in platinum satin finish and the hub covers have colored Porsche crests. The special edition also features an exclusive ‘Porsche Design 50th Anniversary Edition’ badge on the slats of the rear lid grille. While the ‘911’ logo on the rear apron is black. This baby can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 307 km/h.
The special edition is based on the 911 Targa 4 GTS and can now be ordered, with prices starting from USD$210,040.
