7 Exciting Experiences in the Hamptons’ Summer Sun

From Memorial Day through to Labor Day, the Hamptons is where it’s at for luxury travelers. And there is a reason the Hamptons have such a pull and allure. Apart from the amazingly good life vibe, this area of the United States is replete with serenity and natural beauty. It’s a place where you can drop the worries of everyday life for a while and just breathe.

Heading to the Hamptons is a wonderful way to spend precious time with family and friends and it gives so much in the way of fine dining, picturesque beaches, elite shopping, rich history and culture – and the list goes on.

We have highlighted seven reasons elite travelers love this area and why you might want to make your next vacation the epitome of luxury in this slice of seaside heaven.

Shipwrecks and Sharks

Believe it or not, you don’t have to take a trip to the Caribbean or Florida Keys to spearfish – or swim with sharks. Montauk-based Sea Turtle Dive Charters offers private inshore and offshore spearfishing excursions for up to six passengers until September. Spearfishing inshore will provide you with views of shipwrecks and rocky beds home to striped bass, fluke, bluefish, sea bass, and more. Offshore cruises run July through September and are primarily for scoring mahi-mahi. Sea Turtle Dive Charters also offers full-day private shark cage diving excursions off the coast of Montauk during the summer that allows you to get up close and personal with an array of marine life including mako and blue sharks, mahi-mahi tuna, sunfish, sea turtles, and porpoises.

Lobster Rolls

Summer in the Hamptons and lobster rolls go together like bread and butter. It goes without saying, this local favorite is a must try. There are several famed spots to find them like Shinnecock Lobster Factory in Southampton or The Lobster Roll in Amagansett – open for lunch only -- where everyone from Jerry Seinfeld to Bill Clinton has pulled over to get their share of these delicious sandwiches. This local favorite has also been featured on the Food Network.

Surfing at Ditch Plains

One of the most famous things to do in the Hamptons is to take advantage of the incredible surf scene. One of the most popular surf spots in the area in Montauk is at Ditch Plains referred to by locals as their surf mecca. The warm sandy beach floor compliments the cliff side views, creating a very picturesque view of the rolling waves across Long Island. This popular surfing spot is just two miles east of Montauk Village, and a short drive away from just about anywhere in town.

Crab Hunting

Crabbing is really big in the Hamptons and an ideal activity for children to do with their parents. You can get all the equipment at a local hardware shop including rods and wire from which to dangle bits of raw bacon, or chicken, which crabs love. Two of the best spots for crabbing are Sagaponack beach and Geogica Pond.

Children love to learn new things, especially about nature. They will love going crabbing in the Hamptons and can be taught how to hold them so they don’t pinch and for easy release back into the water.

Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center & Museum

Learning about other cultures broadens both the mind and the heart. When you’re in Southampton, you might want to visit the Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center & Museum. This center, on the Shinnecock reservation, is home to more than 1,000 Native American Shinnecock people. It’s a wonderful place to learn about their history, culture and have a look at their marvelous crafts.

Add to Your Summer Wardrobe

There is no shortage of chic places to shop in the Hamptons, however East Hampton is the ultimate destination for luxe shops. Manolo Blahnik’s pop-up shop on Main Street boasts a wide variety of men’s loafers and women’s skyscraper stilettos. Gucci has also finally hit the town with 2,000 square feet of space in its Newtown Lane shop. Named for its iconic address, One Main Street, is a multi-brand boutique more than 7,000 square feet on three levels (including a VIP shopping salon). The luxury marketplace has men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, a furniture collection from Roll & Hill and artworks curated in partnership with Artsy. Here, you will also find Balenciaga, Vince, Tod’s and Weston Wells, among others. Of course there are other areas in the Hamptons providing exclusive shopping such as Main Street in Sag Harbor.

Black Iris, Line Markvardsen and Jennifer Behr are just some of the brands offered for women’s apparel at One Main Street shops.
